Introducing Club Treasurer: Law Jia Hong

A very warm welcome, dear readers, to the ongoing introduction series of our incoming Executive Committee. Today, I present to you one of the most hard-working, diligent and assiduous toastmasters to have joined Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club. He is none other than our Treasurer, Mr. Law Jia Hong!

Jia Hong is the youngest member of Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club. He is full of positive energy and enthusiasm that he very actively uses in accomplishing his toastmaster goals. Jia Hong is one of the most pro-active toastmasters around who frequents different clubs in the toastmasters circuit in Singapore about three or four times a week. He has been growing his speaking and leadership skills as well as titles at one of the fastest rates known to our club. In addition, Jia Hong is the recipient of the Most Improved Toastmaster Award (MITA) for the last session (January – June 2016).

Fresh out of National Service and about to join Singapore Management University, Jia Hong divides his free time among his speeches in different clubs, several leadership activities, a job in his university campus, his passion for art and now activities as the treasurer of our club. In addition, Jia Hong often takes up the additional responsibility of organizing ad-hoc chapter meetings, as and when they take place, for the growth of our members.

Jia Hong is a man who likes to come straight to the point. Presented below is a short interview with about his reasons for joining the Executive Committee:

Why join the Executive Committee?

Because I want to learn more about the functions of the club as well as its intricacies and challenges. This way I shall be able to serve our members in a more fulfilling and better fashion.

What do you intend to gain from your role?

From my role as Treasurer of Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club, I intend to develop a more nuanced understanding of club function and organization. In addition, I intend to develop a more practical and detailed appreciation for finance and accounting that will help me in my course of study in university.

How do you plan to help the club through your role?

Management of financial resources is one of the most challenging jobs that an Executive Committee member has.
This is a very important role since not only does it involve handling money that members have contributed, but it also necessitates proper accounting of all income and expenditure since it puts the reputation of our club at stake. As a result, I intend to use the club funds wisely and keep accounts updated and regular to the last cent spent.

Any other thought you want to convey?

Dollars and Sense is not pretty, but essential.

Ladies and gentlemen, keep following this page for more information on the rest of the Executive Committee, 2015-16 in the coming week.
