520th Chapter Meeting

                             

Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club had its 520th Chapter Meeting on 3rd March, 2016. The meeting was, as usual, was full of energy, excitement and happiness. However, what made it truly special was that Toastmaster Jaric Ng made his journey from boyhood to manhood. Of course, he is way above twenty one years of age. Yet, in the Toastmaster's timeline, adulthood is attained when one completes one's Competent Communicator journey and Jaric did that with flying colours. More on that will come as you read on.

The meeting started with Toastmaster Zhuo Shuzhen standing in as Acting President and giving a very powerful speech on the importance of taking on club roles and of talking tot people. The audience was mesmerised with her poise, panache, power and delivery.

The section that followed the Acting President's address was of course the Prepared Speech segment. The first speech was delivered by Toastmaster Murali where he told us his life's stories and ended with an advice to not act with anger when we are faced with difficult situations. The second speech was delivered by Toastmaster Diederik where he mentioned the importance of good manners and told us how it affects us in our daily lives. The third speech was the most awaited one since Toastmaster Jaric would be delivering his final speech in the Competent Communicator series. It was excellent and people loved it when he asked them to bring out the fighter in them. The final speech of the day was delivered by Toastmaster Andrew where he taught everyone the tricks of starting a conversation.

The evaluation section was equally interesting. The first evaluator was Toastmaster Michael Wee and everyone was excited because he is one of the most experienced toastmasters in the club. The second evaluation was delivered by Toastmaster John Lee. This was followed by two more evaluations from Toastmasters Arjun Chakrabarti and Jia Hong.

The evaluation section was followed by the very interesting Table Topics section where Toastmaster Naveena gave a starting line and made the participants tell a story thereafter.

The main sections of the meeting were fun but equally interesting and fun were the mingling sessions during the break as well as the several fun talks that went on during the meeting. Soon it was time for the results. The Best Prepared Speech Ribbon went to Toastmaster Diederik. The Best Evaluator as well as the Best Table Topics Speaker ribbons went to Toastmaster Arjun Chakrabarti.

Attendees of Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club know that meetings never end in the community centre. Members always take it out to the coffee shop nearby and the same trend was followed. Members went to the coffee shop, ate, drank and then performed an impromptu table topics session while celebrating Toastmaster Jaric's coming of age.

The reasons members are addicted to Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club is the positive energy. Members have been known to have gone home excited and unable to sleep at night because of the physical presence of the energy. It is worth coming to every meeting because of the fun, frolic and enjoyment. Do come again and again.
