Introducing Co-Opted Member: Andrew Chen

Warm welcome, dear readers! Today’s segment on the Executive Committee introduction series focuses on a very special member. This person is part of the committee to advise everyone and let them draw from his treasure of experience. He is one of the most senior and revered members of Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club. Presenting Co-Opted member, Mr. Andrew Chen!

Andrew is one of the veterans of Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club, who has been with the club from its earliest days through thick and thin, changes of location and name changes. He is also one of the most dedicated members of the club. Andrew has been known to help out any member during his time of need. In fact, many an appointment holder has been known to have gone and thanked Andrew for his support during the regular club meetings.

Serving in the Executive Committee is nothing new for Andrew. He has held several positions in the Executive Committee and has also served as an Area Governor. He has also been known to have effectively carried out his roles and duties even during crises in his professional life. As a result, it can be inferred that the Executive Committee has got one of the most dedicated and knowledgeable members in Andrew!

We had a quick chat with Andrew asking him about his reasons for joining the Executive Committee. Here is what he said:

1.      Why join the Executive Committee?

The Executive Committee is where I will learn leadership skills. I have served in Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club Executive Committee as Secretary, Vice President Education, Club President and moving beyond the Club as Area Governor. I have been co-opted into the Executive Committee team this term. I look forward to supporting the Executive Committee team and Club members to excel greater heights.

2.      What do you intend to gain from your role?

I have imbibed life-long skills from Toastmasters and now am working to help my fellow members. I want to guide them to become effective leaders and be the pillars of the Club serving the members. These pillars will create a solid platform, a launching pad, for members to soar greater heights in their toastmasters journeys.

3.      How do you plan to help the club through your role?

I want to lead by example. To be an effective leader I must work hand in hand with my team, encourage and motivate them to be creative, carry out initiatives and at the same time retain the core values passed down by senior members.

4.      Any other thought you want to convey?

The Executive Committee members are the pillars and the hallmarks of Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club. The success of Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club depends on having these pillars in managing the Club.

Keep coming back to this page, dear readers, for further updates on our incoming Executive Committee!
