Ladies and gentlemen,
The founder members of Tampines Changkat
and our predecessors have painstakingly created and developed one of the best toastmaster
clubs in Singapore and handed it to us for us to be the torchbearers of the club’s
journey forward.
While the Exco is appointed to
lead and provide a sense of direction to the club, nothing would be achieved
without close support and a shared vision of the members. A club is only as great as its members. While
the Exco and senior members endeavour to come forward to organise great chapter
meetings, it is unlikely they will be very successful without support from the
members.
Guests from the public and from other
clubs who have visited us find it a great place to be and word seems to be circulating
in the toastmasters circle about the level of energy and enthusiasm that
Tampines Changkat TMC radiates.
As we all have our myriad of commitments
outside of toastmasters, we do sometimes have to rely on members who can afford a little
more commitment in terms of time to come a little earlier to assist in setting up the
venue and prepare for meetings. It is not a very pleasant sight to see our
invited guests having to set up the meeting venue for us.
We have often heard that a
picture is worth a thousand words and seeing is believing. But when it comes to
becoming a better speaker, a better leader, a better organiser, and a better
person, that is furthest from the truth. For all these to happen, we have to be
doers rather than seers and doing in toastmasters would include speaking,
evaluating and holding the various meeting roles and to accelerate development,
even going out to other clubs to speak and take on meeting roles.
No role is too big or too small
as each and every role provides a benefit of its own and members are urged to
come forward to take on meeting roles to enable us to have successful and
effective meetings. Members are also
urged to be amply prepared to handle their assigned roles and if there is
anything that they feel unsure about, they can freely approach any of the Exco
or senior members for assistance and advice and they would be more than happy
to help.
I take this opportunity to announce
the roles available at the next chapter meeting on 18 Oct 2012 as well as invite members to indicate
their interest in the respective roles. I am also pleased to inform that Yew
Run Bin has agreed to share her superb evaluation skills by taking on the role
of PE and our newest member Ronnie Wang has offered to be table topics master.
Roles available:
a. 2 Speaking Slots
b. 2 Project Evaluator Roles
c. Toastmaster of the Evening
d. Sergeant-At-Arms
e. Timer
f.
Ah-Counter
Look forward to an enthusiastic
response and another fantastic chapter meeting with the invaluable contributions from
the members of Tampines Changkat! Thanks and regards,
Gurmit Singh
