Sailing Away To Glory

There comes a day in one's life when one contemplates the necessity of having to continue the daily grind. One yearns to leave it all and just get on a yacht and sail away on the open seas. Unfortunately not many of us can afford to do that. However, the next best thing is to rent a big boat and party hard. That is exactly what members of Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club did on the Saturday of 28th March, 2016. Club President Gladys Tye organised a boat party and some of the members joined her for a day of partying, swimming, relaxing and singing.

The crew met at Keppel Bay and boarded the yacht. The yacht was beautiful but the experience was made more beautiful because of the people involved. However, the beauty of the experience was further increased as members brought out the food that they had brought, be it pizzas, bacon-wrapped mushrooms, spam fries, tortilla chips or subway cookies. However, no food is complete without drinks and the members had the best, be it whiskies ranging to seventeen years, posh cognacs, vodkas, Irish Cream or beer.

The boat trip started with a tour around Sentosa islands and then the boat went all the way to St. John's and Lazarus Islands. There the members visited the island and headed down to the beach, posing for photos all along the way. Once on the beach, the members brought out the children hidden in them. They started playing relay race and all other beach games. People also became creative and drew brilliant pieces of art on the sand. Finally, they came back to the boat and enjoyed the evening under the starts. Nothing is as beautiful as food, alcohol, great music and a starry night. The boat again went to Sentosa and the members saw the Light and Sound Show followed by fireworks.

The final event of the night was an impromptu jam session. The Captain of the ship and his assistant brought out a few guitars and being semi-professional musicians, they started playing songs and singing for the guests. So of the ambitious toastmasters joined them at the guitar and at singing and the evening went on in full fun and frolic.

The night was great and some decided to finally go home and rest. Others however decided to stay on and continue the jam session with the boatmen and this went on till midnight. The weather was good, the food was fabulous, the boat was excellent and the seas were calm but that was not the main reason for the success of the party. Any event is rendered memorable when the people involved are nice and have fun and that was also the case with the motley crew that night. The people made the party a success.

Stay tuned for further updates on the meetings and activities of Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club!
