385th Chapter Meeting Summary

For those of you who missed the 385th Chapter Meeting, here is the summary!

___________________________________________________________________

Dear all

We often hear people say that toastmastering is a journey. The most logical question that follows is: "Where does it take you?" The answer: The destination you set at the beginning.

On the 5th of August 2010, our club went "Back to Basics" Thank you,
Coen! You were the epitome of this principle, not once but twice. First in your opening address, as you expounded on
the principle of Genshai:

Genshai, never belittling yourself or others.
Genshai, holding all in their excellence
Genshai, the very spirit of a toastmasters

Secondly, when you piloted a panel of speakers which varied from the Veterans (Michael, ChengLee, Andrew and JinHwui) to the Rookies (Shaun). He drew out the lesson that:

Toastmasters meant different things to different people
Toastmasters delivered different value to different people
Yet one thing common to all is that Toastmasters creates real, positive change. Be it DTMs, be it CC, or be it TMs.

Thank you, Susan, thank you for being a living example for what going back to basic means.
Your elegant and eloquent performance was textbook example of what a TME should be.

Thank you, Atindra! People often think that grass in greener on the other side, or in this case the Western side. You reminded us that the next wave of progress will come not from USA, not from Europe but in Asia. Asia, where we belong.

Thank you, Daniel! You have provided a twist on P7, proposing the alternate purpose of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in ah..hem relationship management. We were however dying to hear more about TCM and what it could do for us right now. Perhaps you can do a sequel for your P8?

On behalf of our club, I salute our Project Evaluators, Yvonne of Toa Payoh Central CC TMC, as well as our very own Emmanuel and Kelvin. Thank you for highlighting our speakers' strengths. Thank you for tipping our speakers' on how to improve, Thank you for demonstrating how to give a proper evaluation.

Special mention to Yvonne, for you have captured the essence of piloting a panel in 1 sentence. "You (Project Speaker) are the director and they (panel members) are your cast." A masterful 5 star performance, we have got a lot to learn indeed.

Using the word of the day, "long". In the long of short of it, being an LE is very much like being a teacher. While not a Teacher by profession, our LE, WeeYong from Changi Simei TMC has certainly done a language evaluation that gave English Teachers, a run for their money. A big thank you from our club, we have certainly learnt a lot from you!

Of course, how can we forget the various appointment holders without which the chapter cannot be held? SAA, Jin Sen; Ah Counter, Ridzham; Table Topic Master, Shaun and Timer, Marcus. Thank you for answering to our Club’s call when we needed you!

Member and Audience, don’t think that we have forgotten you! Your energy and enthusiasm have certainly enliven the meeting. Keep it up. If you find this Chapter Meeting great, wait till you have seen the next one. Stay tune for the next chapter meeting on the 19th of August 2010!!!

Regards,
Shaun Li VPE,
Tampines Changkat TMC WY 2010/2011
