Celebrations @ Tampines Changkat 405th Chapter Meeting on 2June 2011

Ladies and Gentlemen,

There is so much to celebrate recently!

We have a new incoming exco!
We are on track for 10 DCP points!
We have a District Champion!!!

Congratulations JinHwui! Congratulations on winning the District 80 Table Topics Contest that have just concluded.

How does he do it?

Hint: Today's theme: Grinding the Iron.

He rose to the occasion by doing one thing more than others:

Continually making use of the toastmasters platform,

continually applying what he has learnt in toastmasters in his personal life; and

continually getting better at what he does.

Is it hard? Not really, TM is an enlightening and enlivening experience after all

Is it easy? Not really, it requires discipline and constant application.

Ladies and gentlemen,

the path of success is open to us all,
the TM platform is open to us all,

whether you take it or not is dependent on you.

If you do, you know where to find it:

At Tampines Changkat Toastmasters club, where there is food for the thought, food for the tummy and fun for everyone!!!

Cheers,

Shaun

Recap of Annual General Meeting 19th May 2011

Having joined the club just last year, i witnessed the first AGM of Tampines Changkat Toastmasters club yesterday evening. It was a great learning experience as our club is the only one that holds AGM to conclude the term and to elect its new office-holders. The structured process involved is almost akin to that of that of a corporate entity's. It is no wonder that our members acquire much coveted leadership skills by taking up active role within the club due to his similarity to a corporation. I myself had learnt alot.

After the presentation of the reports by the exco members, we were all set to nominate the new exco for the coming term. Following are the results:

President-elect: Shuan Li
VPE-elect: Ted Chong(me)
VPM-elect: Virginia Wong
VPPR-elect: Zamir Chew
Secretary-elect: Gim Leong
Treasurer-elect: Linda Huang
S-A-A-elect: Tay Cher Teck

With that, we have a new slate of officers next term to serve us. However, let us not forget our club's greatest objective as advocated by TI: to help people develop better communication skills to achieve self actualization.

Let us wish them all the best as they work together to bring our club to greater heights.

As we conclude the AGM, we begin to proceed with our usual chapter meeting. Due to time constraints, we have only 2 speakers tonight which was Angela and Me, both doing P9.

I spoke about the reality of life and attempted to persuade fellow toastmasters to be true to themselves.
Angela taught us to manage our time better with the 3Ps as she persuade us to be more efficient.

Our president, Coen ended off the meeting with an emotional speech by thanking everyone who have helped him in his term.
Over the term, I have been a big beneficiary of his benevolence as i see my communication skills improved by leaps and bounds. Although sad to see him step down, i wish that the renewal of leadership will allow our club to continue helping people like me. I also want to thank Coen for his relentless efforts in serving our club and its members. By taking up the role of VPE, i see our current president and VPE as the role model and aspire to do just as well as them!

With that, the AGM has come to a close. Let us look forward to a new and better term starting from July! See you at the next chapter meeting on 2/6/2011, thurs!

Recap of 403rd Chapter Meeting @ Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club

Our 403rd Chapter meeting falls on the 5th May 11, which was just 2 days before a significant day in our country's history. The day we citizens exercise our rights to choose our government, the polling day.
We have a relatively smaller turnout yesterday as a result of our busy members' commitment to the General Elections which is around the corner. Nonetheless, I am proud that our chapter meeting was still a success with the efforts by our members and visiting guests!

Yesterday, we had 3 visiting toastmasters from different clubs. Linda Lee from AIA changi, Thiru from SIA and Jami from Tiarel Toastmasters club respectively were here to add flavor to our chapter meeting. It is always nice to have visitors so that we can learn from each other.

Sergeant-at-arms, ZhiQiang kickstart the meeting with a question, " what will you do if you have a bad date?" Well our conclusion, a date is better than none, try to get to make a friend instead.

Coen, our president delivered his AP5 cum opening address with an inspirational touch. He shared with us the formula to success through the combined efforts of thought, meaning and action.

Thiru completed his project 10 and attained his Competent Communicator title. Congrats!

Today, we started the evening with 2 inspirational speeches from Coen and Thiru.
Time to lighten up our mood.

Linda entertained us with her account of how she lost her wallet and her lesson learnt. She advised us with the 3 tips we need to take note of when taking cabs in the future.

Matthew, our club's humorous speaker once again tickle our funny bone with his story on his idol, Bruce Lee. 'Wa-ter!' Cheers to our Shifu who brought us so much laughter.

Tonight, we have 2 best speakers, Thiru and Matthew because of a tie in results.

For the evaluation segment, we have a 1st-timer making his debut evaluation. He is none other than yours truly, me. A challenge for myself yet again, but it is certainly worth the effort as i see someone benefiting from it.
Well, toastmasters is about choosing to make growth choices every meeting and we all want to embody this spirit of toastmasters.
The best evaluator goes to Thiru with his value-filled evaluation.

Table topic best speaker goes to Zamir and Emmanuel!

Jami gave a general evaluation for our chapter meeting based on his vast experience from visiting clubs. Thank you Jami for your valuable and objective evaluation and suggestions!

We also celebrated our may baby, Ridzham's birthday with a birthday cake bought by Angela.

Another wonderful evening has come to a close. Home sweet Home..See you on the 19/5/2011, thursday 7pm!

Monday 2 May 2011

Ladies and Gentlemen,

What's the hottest topic recently?

Is the sweltering heat?
Is the series of long weekends we are having?

It is the General elections (GE)

In toastmasters, sex, religion and politics are no no..

Today, its no exception..

That being said, we have heard powerful analogies such as Drivers to describe the government and Co-driver to describe the opposition.

We have also heard the use of the analogy of the tiger to describe the challenges that the opposition faces

In both instances, the powerful usage of English has added much colour to the GE rallies.

In our lives, communication is an important facet of life, and in TM we learned to design, draw and colour the words that we use.

These words will in turn add much colour and favour to our life.

Very much like how analogies adds much colours and favours to the GE.

To find out how you can spice up your words and your life

Come join us at Tampines Changkat TMC where there is food for the thought, food for the tummy and fun for everyone!!!

Cheers,

Shaun
