Tampines Changkat TMC 386th Chapter Meeting on 19th Aug 2010‏

A Toastmasters Journey……… This is something we often hear about.

But what exactly is this journey about?

I can’t answer that for you but I do know this:

Just like no 2 leaves are alike in a forest of 100,000 trees;

No 2 journeys on the same road are alike.

We should therefore

Walk Our Paths, Seek Our Dreams, and Create Our Destinies!

Fantastic, we are all ready to go!!!

Wait a minute…… how do we start?

Let’s find out together this Thursday night at our club’s 386th Chapter Meeting!

Until we meet, this is a sneak preview of what's going to happen:

Ever wondered what role each appointment holder is supposed to do and how they are going to do it? Fret not; Andrew Chen will be delivering an educational session on Meeting roles and responsibility. Get ready to quench your thirst of curiosity! A soft spoken gentlemen, he’s quiet and unassuming that’s until….
he stands before the audience where
he unleashes the giant in him.

  • Now, what will Wu Jin Sen let loose on us when he presents his Project 3? Let’s await in anticipation! She had reminded us on what our pioneers have done for Singapore previously.

  • What life lessons would Sharon Hor share with us when she delivers her Project three? Let’s keep mind and ears open. Emperors of old have looked for the elixir of immortality, to extend their lives.

  • Do you know that one’s readily available in the……supermarket? Linda Huang will share that with us in her project 5. Stay tune!

  • Never failing to amuse and tickle us with his laid back and unassuming sense of humor. What tricks would Terry Tan have up his sleeves when he showcases his project 7? Surprise us!

  • During the last chapter meeting, we mentioned about the benefits of club visiting. That being said, many of our members are tied up with life’s endeavors and can’t afford time to visit clubs. Do not worry; we will be bringing the clubs to you. Visiting toastmasters will be holding the roles of PE, LE, TME and Table Topic master.

  • Look forward to an illustrious line up of experienced Evaluators, our very own Tony Hoo, as well as invited guests: David Kow from Tiarel TMC, Jasmine Tan from NTU Inspyre TMC, Jerlynn Ang from Buona Vista TMC and Lim Seh Leng from Ulu Pandan and Brilliant Advanced TMC.

  • For the role of the Master of Ceremony, the host of the evening, the life of the party, we have Adelin Lim from Money Mastery TMC!

  • Members rejoice for we have an ambassador of goodwill from Toastmasters International, she is none other than Vera Wee, Area S4 Governor from Changi Simei and Star Millennium Advanced TMC. Like all great leaders, she believes in drawing valuable lessons from each individual. What insight will we gain for ourselves, when we take part in the table topic segment? I can’t wait to find out!

  • I will also like to acknowledge the following members who have agreed to take up appointments in this Chapter Meeting. They are: Thomas Tan as SAA, Simon Tey as timer, and Atindra Ghosh as Ah Counter.

It promises to be an elevating, enlightening, and enlivening meeting this Thursday! Come join us on the journey!

385th Chapter Meeting Summary

For those of you who missed the 385th Chapter Meeting, here is the summary!

___________________________________________________________________

Dear all

We often hear people say that toastmastering is a journey. The most logical question that follows is: "Where does it take you?" The answer: The destination you set at the beginning.

On the 5th of August 2010, our club went "Back to Basics" Thank you,
Coen! You were the epitome of this principle, not once but twice. First in your opening address, as you expounded on
the principle of Genshai:

Genshai, never belittling yourself or others.
Genshai, holding all in their excellence
Genshai, the very spirit of a toastmasters

Secondly, when you piloted a panel of speakers which varied from the Veterans (Michael, ChengLee, Andrew and JinHwui) to the Rookies (Shaun). He drew out the lesson that:

Toastmasters meant different things to different people
Toastmasters delivered different value to different people
Yet one thing common to all is that Toastmasters creates real, positive change. Be it DTMs, be it CC, or be it TMs.

Thank you, Susan, thank you for being a living example for what going back to basic means.
Your elegant and eloquent performance was textbook example of what a TME should be.

Thank you, Atindra! People often think that grass in greener on the other side, or in this case the Western side. You reminded us that the next wave of progress will come not from USA, not from Europe but in Asia. Asia, where we belong.

Thank you, Daniel! You have provided a twist on P7, proposing the alternate purpose of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in ah..hem relationship management. We were however dying to hear more about TCM and what it could do for us right now. Perhaps you can do a sequel for your P8?

On behalf of our club, I salute our Project Evaluators, Yvonne of Toa Payoh Central CC TMC, as well as our very own Emmanuel and Kelvin. Thank you for highlighting our speakers' strengths. Thank you for tipping our speakers' on how to improve, Thank you for demonstrating how to give a proper evaluation.

Special mention to Yvonne, for you have captured the essence of piloting a panel in 1 sentence. "You (Project Speaker) are the director and they (panel members) are your cast." A masterful 5 star performance, we have got a lot to learn indeed.

Using the word of the day, "long". In the long of short of it, being an LE is very much like being a teacher. While not a Teacher by profession, our LE, WeeYong from Changi Simei TMC has certainly done a language evaluation that gave English Teachers, a run for their money. A big thank you from our club, we have certainly learnt a lot from you!

Of course, how can we forget the various appointment holders without which the chapter cannot be held? SAA, Jin Sen; Ah Counter, Ridzham; Table Topic Master, Shaun and Timer, Marcus. Thank you for answering to our Club’s call when we needed you!

Member and Audience, don’t think that we have forgotten you! Your energy and enthusiasm have certainly enliven the meeting. Keep it up. If you find this Chapter Meeting great, wait till you have seen the next one. Stay tune for the next chapter meeting on the 19th of August 2010!!!
